Created by Nature’s Sunshine, we’ve concluded that Smart Meal is your typical, run-of-the-mill diet shake. Sure, it has a few solid ingredients like organic flax seed, but this is overshadowed by an array of less desirable ingredients such as soy protein isolate and sugar cane.
We will say that, although we’d like to see zero grams of sugar in our diet shakes, we’d almost rather have some sugar cane (note: it’s a whopping 6 grams of sugar cane per serving) than some of the artificial sweeteners that we find in so many other meal replacement products.
The good news is this product is fairly low in calories – only 130 per serving. However, it seems like you’re always trading the good for the bad with this shake. While it was low calorie, we don’t think this could stand alone as a meal replacement. We we’re starving thirty minutes after drinking this thing!
In terms of taste – don’t get fancy with the flavors with this one. In our humble opinion, the chai flavor was downright unbearable. The chocolate and vanilla were pretty average for this average shake.
